[IMAGE] The irony of Dell’s Ubuntu site!

Following the recent brouhaha about Dell’s public claims that Ubuntu is safer than Windows and its subsequent change of stance, I hopped onto the Dell Ubuntu site this morning just to see what has changed since and to my amusement, the site tells me it recommends IE8.
There’s nothing wrong with that until you realize I am on the Ubuntu site, which invariably means I want to use Linux! Now you are recommending IE8 for me when I am shopping for a Linux machine? Oh and I visited the site via Google Chrome, is that not a good browser too?
I’m not sure it was there before, and so is it not ironic and quite interesting that Dell publicly claims Ubuntu is safer than Windows, then it backtracks, now it is recommending the use of IE on THE Ubuntu site. Interesting.

  1. According to Slashdot Dell has stopped selling consumer PCs preloaded with Ubuntu from its website. Unfortunately, the success of Windows 7 has hit he demand for PCs with Ubuntu preload quite hard.

  2. Yeah, right, winblow$ $even is so successful, Micro$oft extended the life of an almost defunct OS (XP) just to celebrate $even's awesome selling… PR and lies, that is.

  3. Well, I know several people who were sick of XP, and since Vista didn't seem much better they rather chose Ubuntu and loved it. Unfortunately, with the release of Windows 7 a lot of them have switched back. I believe this is directly related to Dell's decision of not sell Ubuntu PCs anymore, but I might be wrong.

  4. $even is Vi$ta with a lipstick. Besides, every winblow$ system is alike: Works well in the first days, then starts to drag down the computer. Linux, in the other hand, performs just the same, from day 1 to the end. And $even is not even compatible with the games of XP.

  5. Just to add: Michael Dell is a convict crook fined by the SEC to pay US$100 million. What to expect from a guy like this ??? Enough said.
